Starting university is like stepping into a whole new world— it’s exciting, a little nerve-wracking, and absolutely full of possibilities! For many freshers, it’s the first taste of freedom, where adulthood starts to feel real. But with new surroundings, new faces, and the pressure of upcoming classes, it can be a lot to handle. That’s where Freshers Week comes in—a week dedicated to welcoming first-year students, helping them settle in, make new friends, and discover everything uni life has to offer!
From wild parties to chilled-out welcome fairs, Freshers Week events are all about making students feel at home. And what better way to do that than with a wholesome feast? And that’s where we, Hog Roast Silloth, come in. We’ve been flat-out catering Freshers’ events all over Cumbria since university doors swung open, and yesterday’s BBQ bash was a massive hit!
Our superstar catering crew worked tirelessly at this huge university fair, which saw new students treated to a jam-packed day of entertainment featuring sports demos, live music, and—of course—delicious grub! With over 50 local and national businesses showcasing what campus life has in store, the fair was a hive of excitement. Plus, there were plenty of freebies and discounts flying around, making it feel like Christmas had come early!
Among the plethora of food stalls, Hog Roast Silloth definitely stood out. The irresistible smell of our char-grilled meats and farm-fresh sides drifting through the air had students flocking to our stall in no time. And who could blame them? We’d rustled up a BBQ spread fit for kings and queens consisting of juicy spareribs, chicken kebabs, gourmet sausages and handmade British beef burgers, plus veggie burgers, and veggie sausages to keep the plant-based crowd happy!
To complement these moreish meats, we dished out Greek salad, pasta salad, and our legendary mixed fries, loaded up with salt, vinegar, and all the sauces your heart could desire. The freshers couldn’t get enough—and fortunately, with plenty to go around, second (and third) helpings were definitely on the menu!
As the kids would say, the whole day was a vibe, with students mingling, grabbing plates of delicious food, and soaking in the lively atmosphere. Hog Roast Silloth brought the flavour, and the freshers brought the energy! It was the perfect recipe for helping everyone feel right at home in their new uni digs.
