Back in 2003, two Australian friends, Travis Garone and Luke Slattery, came up with a simple yet powerful idea—grow moustaches for a good cause. Little did they know that their quirky challenge would blossom into Movember, a global month-long campaign for men’s health. Since then, Movember has spread worldwide, raising millions for men’s health initiatives each year, tackling everything from mental health to cancer awareness.
This year, Cumbria joined the mo-mentum in style, thanks to Brian—a local hero with a passion for making a difference. Armed with big ideas and an even bigger moustache, Brian hosted an amazing Movember event that combined fun, food, and fundraising for a men’s mental health charity.
Held at a buzzing venue here in Cumbria, Brian’s event was all about bringing people together, breaking the stigma around mental health, and having a laugh while doing it. The guest list? A fantastic crowd of 200 people ready to support a great cause. The activities? Absolute hits! There was a fiercely contested “Movember Moustache Contest,” where creative mo’s stole the show, and a hilariously fun “Build Your Beard” station for those who wanted to craft their own facial hair masterpiece, plus a charity raffle, where every penny raised went straight to the cause.
The cherry on top was, of course, the food! Hog Roast Coniston was thrilled to cater this brilliant event, serving up a Gourmet BBQ feast that kept everyone fueled and smiling. Our menu was designed to wow every guest, starting with the classics: smoky, chargrilled chicken kebabs, gourmet sausages, and sticky spareribs that practically fell off the bone. But the true highlight was our handmade 100% British beef burgers. Soft buns, melted cheese, crisp lettuce, and fresh tomato slices made every bite pure perfection!
As for the plant-based crew, Hog Roast Coniston’s BBQ-pulled jackfruit rolls, topped with creamy plant-based coleslaw, were a massive hit! And, to top it all off, we served vibrant sides, including seasonal green leaf salad, Greek salad with crumbly feta, and a mix of sweet potato and traditional fries. Let’s just say no one left hungry!
Thanks to Brian’s hard work, the community’s generous spirit and Hog Roast Coniston’s tasty grub, the event raised a fantastic amount for the chosen charity!
